What is HAG?

Hepworth Art Group was formed in 2005 with a small number of local amateur artists. It is an inclusive group and we do not set any requirements for previous experience of art. Enthusiasm is the key skill.

There isn't a membership fee, just a request to donate 2 whenever you attend. This helps to cover the cost of hiring the hall and of providing refreshments.

What do we do?

We meet informally to help and encourage each other create some art. So far we have concentrated on painting but we have hopes to also include some 3D work.

To date the group has done work in watercolour, acrylic and oil painting plus some drawing.

HAG is not a teaching group and we meet without a tutor. For those who feel they need some instruction the group members provide help, support and guidance when requested.

This year the group had its first of what we hope will be its “annual day out” and we went to a canal boat marina in New Mills, Derbyshire. We had a great day out with fine weather and we managed to do some paintings too!

When do we meet?

We meet here in Hepworth Village Hall on alternate Wednesday afternoons between 3 pm and 6 pm, but most meetings end around 5 pm. Our next meeting is on 30th July. Why don't you come along and try us out?

A list of meeting dates is displayed in the notice board outside the Village Hall.

What have we achieved so far?

The group held its first exhibition in 2006 at the Garden Trail.

Flushed from this success the group moved on from individual work to a community-based project to create a textile wall hanging to celebrate the many facets of Hepworth as a community, both today and in the past. The textile wall hanging is on permanent display in this hall and there is a separate leaflet for you to take away to tell you more about this fascinating work.

What do we hope to do next?

As well as our regular meetings we will be working on carving images on a stone bench for the village. The stone block is being generously donated by Marshalls plc and the Group is delighted to have local sculptor Mike Disley as its advisor. We also have a place to work kindly offered by Sue and Jimmy Greenhalgh. So why not come along and join us for this new venture?

The group also hope to invite artists to do demonstration sessions. These events will be open to anyone to attend.
